There is significant debate as to whether currently available trauma-focussed treatments (without initial stabilisation or skills-based interventions) are effective for Complex PTSD. This study recently published in the European Journal of Psychotraumatology found that intensive trauma-focussed therapy that combined eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and prolonged exposure (PE) therapy resulted in significant symptom improvement among adults with PTSD, including high rates of loss of PTSD and Complex PTSD diagnoses. The findings support the view that most patients with Complex PTSD can benefit from established trauma-focussed therapy.
